It is confirmed the stiffening layer that is called a white etching layer or white layer is generated on the rail. Moreover, it is reported that the generation of a similar stiffening layer occurs on the bearing and the brake disc. A micro crack that occurs on the rail white layer is a starting point of the crack that progresses on the rail and it grows up to the rail squats. A concrete finding has not been obtained yet though, the generation of a rail white layer is known conceptual. In this paper, we report the relation between the rail white layer and the micro crack that occurs on the laid rails.
