The governor and safety gear mechanism is the most important safety device in elevator system. When the governor system detects over-speed state of the car, the system activates the safety gear system, so that the car can stop immediately. During such motion, the safety lever rotation of the safety gear system and the interactive force with the governor system should be evaluated for the total mechanism design. The safety gear system contains geometric nonlinear motion due to large rotation of the lever, and the spring devices show nonlinear behavior by large displacement. To clarify such complicated behavior, the detailed simulation model of the governor and safety gear mechanism is proposed. The model contains the above nonlinear effects, and it shows precise response against experiment results.
