Design methods for railway axles are defined in JIS and JRIS standards. Design calculation procedure of JRIS standard requires more parameters and is more complex than that of JIS standard. The paper shows the summary of these two design methods and the differences of axle geometries designed based on these two methods. The axle geometry designed based on EN standard is also shown in the paper. Moreover, some parameters such as acceleration coefficient and safety factor of axle of JIS standard are modified in order to obtain the same axle geometries designed based on JRIS standard.
