Abstract

When an axle beam type suspension is adopted for axle boxes on a rolling stock, the amplitude of a tachometer generator on an axle end is correlated with the lateral displacement of the wheelset. Utilizing this phenomenon, this paper proposes a predictor detection method for flange climb derailments. When tachometer generators are already on board, the rolling stock train would be able to get that predictor detection method without any new sensor installation. In this paper, the mechanism of the method and results of validation tests are reported.
