Abstract

We measured the vibrations of the Danjiri (Festival Floats) during parade at the Ueno Tenjin Festival. "Danjiri event of the Ueno Tenjin Festival" was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 2002, and it was registered to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list as one of “Yama, Hoko, Yatai, float festivals in Japan" in 2016. Some Danjiri have vibrations due to the deterioration of it, therefore they need to be repaired. Shaking of the Danjiri during its parade were measured by acceleration sensor. It was found that a large amount of shaking was generated when the Danjiri changed direction using a lever. And, vibrations at roof of the Danjiri were also caused by uneven road surfaces. Additionally, it found that the brace attached to the Danjiri are effective in reducing shaking acceleration.
