Since 2020, STEAM education has been spreading in Japan. We developed a coffee roaster as a teaching material for STEAM education. The design and manufacture process of coffee roasting machines includes many Technology and Engineering elements related to metalworking and mechanical engineering. Stirring green beans in a rotating body also requires knowledge of Science, such as centrifugal force and heat conduction from a gas stove. Mathematics is also included in the geometry of drilling a hole in the center of a rotating body and in the calculation of reduction gears. In addition, the overall design of the roasting machine includes elements of Art. We developed a compact coffee roaster with an open flame that is consistent from hopper loading to roasting completed.
