Shape memory polymer (SMP) has characteristic properties of shape memory effect and shape fixity. For using the latter property, for example, when a material containing SMP fibers which are aligned in three rectangular directions and embedded in a polymeric matrix is fabricated, ratio of values of the macroscopic elastic modulus of each direction are different before and after shape fix of SMP fibers. That is, degree of anisotropic property of the material can be changed. To design such an intelligent material containing SMP fibers, the first, it must be examined to decide the suitable shape of SMP fiber to appear the desired degree of anisotropy. In this study, micromechanical analysis for an intelligent material containing unidirectional SMP fibers will be performed. The shape of SMP fiber is modeled as any ellipsoidal one and the macroscopic elastic moduli of the material will be derived in terms of aspect ratios of SMP fiber. By using this ,result, the parameter that indicates the degree of anisotropy of the material is defined, and the effect of the shape of SMP fiber on this parameter will be calculated numerically.
