The fatigue testing was carried out with specimens of aluminum alloy 2024-T3 containing a deep notch, and the ultrasonic measurement of the surface acoustic wave (SAW) was carried out on the specimen surface to examine detectability of signals from a notch and a crack tip. The ultrasonic measurement of the SAW was also carried out in process in the fatigue testing to obtain the change in the signal intensity from the notch, and then propagation path of crack was observed.
