Abstract
Sounds give us information along the temporal stream. Various important phenomena and laws of human perception of temporally varying sounds can be found by examining the instantaneous impression to the sounds, comparing the overall impression with instantaneous impression, and relating instantaneous impression to physical properties. In this paper, “the method of continuous judgment by category”, “the method of continuous judgment by line length” and “the method of continuous judgment by selected description”, which have been developed by Namba and Kuwano with their colleagues were overviewed. Also the typical examples of the studies conducted by using these continuous judgments were introduced so that the characteristics of the continuous judgments could be easily understood.
