Currently we are going through a rapid administrative reform in Japan. Moreover, it has a great impact on educational administration. This is the same situation for local governments. Because sport administration has belonged to educational administration in Japan this reform also affects sport administration. In 2007 the Law concerning organization and functions of local educational administration was revised. Due to this revision, local governments can transfer sport administrative affairs to general administrative organization, and thus the sport administration in local governments may well change. In this study we interviewed officials in four local governments that had secondarily relegated the administrative affairs for sport to general administrative organization. We verified the assumed drawbacks and advantages of this transition. The following results were obtained. 1. The transition did not contribute to ensure the generalization of administrative affairs for sport. 2. There was almost no appreciable financial advantage from this transition. 3. The continuity of the administrative work was not confused in local government. 4. There ware some problems about expertise in a small local government. 5. They were corresponding to manage the office works by sharing with sport-related entities.
