Dementia treatment prospects from the viewpoint of rehabilitation medicine

Abstract

It is considered important to intervene in dementia treatment from an early stage. Therefore, preventive approach including lifestyle-related improvements that do not decrease physical activity is necessary.

Cognitive function tends to decline in association with body composition change such as sarcopenia.

Since the central nervous system plays an important role in maintaining muscle activity, the association between brain pathology and muscle function has attracted attention. It will become more and more important for neurosurgeons who are familiar with brain to deepen their understanding of locomotor disorders from the viewpoint of rehabilitation medicine and participate in dementia prevention and treatment.
