Electrogastrography (EGG) is a method for evaluating gastric function through frequency analysis of electrical signals from gastric smooth muscle derived from the body surface. We previously reported that skipping breakfast and clock gene polymorphisms attenuate gastric motility before breakfast intake and that gastric contraction strength (EGG power) correlates with appetite. However, the influence of daily life routines on gastric motility remains unclear. In this study, we examined the association between preprandial EGG parameters (dominant frequency and EGG power) and daily rhythms in 106 young women with established breakfast-eating habits. This revealed a significant correlation between lower gastric motility frequency and later breakfast times on weekdays. Additionally, significant correlations were found between reduced gastric motility power and longer sleep duration, later waking time, and later midpoint sleep time on weekdays. Multiple regression analysis revealed that a later breakfast time was independently associated with a lower dominant frequency. In conclusion, our data suggest that the timing of breakfast on weekdays may be associated with fasting gastric motility in young women who eat breakfast regularly.
