Alongside advancements in the medical and scientific understanding of dementia–related disorders, clinical practice guideline for dementia have undergone multiple revisions. The initial clinical practice guideline for dementia in Japan was established in 2002, with subsequent revisions in 2010 and 2017. Revision of guidelines started in 2023. While medications for Alzheimer disease were initially limited to symptomatic drugs, the emergence of anti–amyloid β antibody drugs suggests a significant shift in dementia treatment approaches.
