Abstract
From December, 1977 throught March, 1991 there were 231 cases with oral infecions hospitalized in our ward.
A retrospective review of these patients, especially the cases with refractory infections (which we prescrived over for 3 weeks hospitalization case) was reported.
The 231 cases were classified periostitis (103 cases, 44.6%), osteomyelitis (24 cases, 10.4%), cellulitis (67 cases, 29.0%) and others (30 cases, 13.0%) .
The No. of cases, where hospitalization of over 3 weeks was required is highest with osteomyelitis (5 cases, 16.1%) followed by periostitis (3 cases, 2.9%) and cellulitis (2 cases, 3.0%) .
The features of refractory infections in this study were as follows ;
1) immunocompromised host e. g. diabetes mellitus and rhumatoid arthritis
2) the case of wide resection of infection of infectious lesion
3) the case of which underwent no effective therapy for a long time from onset of infection
