The evaluation of a new enteral nutritional product, Clinimeal®, in the field of oral surgery was compared with that of the hospital diet which was minced by mixer. Clinimeal was tolerated up to a maximum dose of 1, 850-1, 950 kcal/day. In the group which was administered Clinimeal by tube feeding, the concentration of prealbumin and transferrin in the blood plasma showed a tendency to increase. As a side effect of the Clinimeal, occasional diarrhea was observed, however severe diarrhea was observed in only 4 of 30 patients (13%) . This percentage was somewhat smaller than that of the minced diet. Clinimeal had the advantage of easy pumping. The usefulness of Clinimeal may be improved by making it in a variety of flavors.
