Abstract
Botryococcus brunii is a fresh water alga which produces oils by 50% of its dry weight and secrete them to outside of the cells. This alga is possible to use for the resource of bio-energy. We constructed a full-length cDNA library by using total RNA isolated from log-phase oil-producing cells. We sequenced 11,904 of cDNAs. Sequenced ESTs consisted of 2,897 genes. We classified them into 9 categories such as signal transduction, photosynthesis, housekeeping metabolism, architectural proteins, oil metabolism, protein degradation, protein and RNA synthesis, channel like proteins and unknown function. Population of each category was 6.1%, 5%, 7.6%, 3.7%, 2.5%, 3.4%, 8%, 2.5% and 61%, respectively. Forty-nine kind of genes that will be participated in oil metabolism were identified.
