Abstract
Purpose: Sedation has traditionally been used in a wide variety of ways to control the physical and emotional distress of patients during any procedures. We report that a sedation working group (sedation WG) at our 850-bed hospital with approximately 2,500 daily outpatients and 10 sedation procedures per day achieve standardization of in-hospital sedation methods.
Methods: The main efforts include: 1) approval of off-label use of sedation medications, 2) creation of a standardized sedation consent form, 3) revision of sedation guidelines, 4) creation of e-learning based on the guidelines, 5) creation of a practical training system for mask ventilation, 6) approval of protocol for propofol use, 7) creation of a template for post-sedation medical records, 8) Aggregation of sedation records and review of adverse events.
Conclusion: An average of 244 cases of sedation were reported each month, and cases taking more than 3 hours and adverse events were reviewed by the Sedation WG. New information should be made known to the public will be included in the next revision of the guideline, and then in-hospital sedation would move toward safer and sustainable.
