Abstract
On the thirtieth anniversary of the Japan Society for Science Policy and Research Management (JSSPRM), this special issue warrants congratulations for two reasons: first, this is the first undertaking focusing on the activity of working parties (Divisions) within the Society and second, it celebrates the accomplishments of women engineers. The Division of Women Engineers Support of the JSSPRM (JWSE) was inaugurated in 2009. Since its inception, the Division has carried out quite a few activities. Accordingly, it has become apparent that without the contribution of women engineers, Japan will fall behind in the race for building a sustainable and resilient country in the 21st century.
