This paper proposes a novel column splice for square hollow sectional columns. It is not required to be assembled with high precision in a factory and can be constructed easily on-site without welding. The proposed splice consists of two square hollow sections with different outer diameters filling their gaps with non-shrink mortar. In this paper, the elasto-plastic behavior of the proposed splice is investigated by loading test and finite element method analyses. The yield strengths of the components of the splice are derived and validated by comparison with the results of finite element method analyses.
