Early local buckling occurs on an H-shaped beam with a large width-to-thickness ratio, and its flexural capacity deteriorates. The axial deformation of the beam due to local buckling is restrained by contiguous structural members, thus the post-buckling behavior is influenced by the axial restraint. This paper investigates the effects of axial restraint of the beams with extremely large width-to-thickness ratios on the capacity degradation due to local buckling through a cyclic loading test and a finite element analysis. As a result, it is revealed that the capacity degradation can be moderated by the axial restraint in multi-stories and multi-bays frames.
