Abstract
Design books were well known as published during Meiji era to meet with the government craft trade strategy. Aizu lacquer ware production district had also design books, but its active publishments were come in early Showa era. This research aims (1) to find design books and related documents, (2) to discuss the aim of publishing design books. The findings are as follows; (1) the early Showa era was the one of the time when the needs of design came evidently in crafts industry, (2) the main aim of publishing design books were to increase trade transaction, (3) the design section, which settled in 1932, led active projects, and finally, trade transaction were increased until 1936 when the war between China and Japan was outburst.
