Abstract
The purpose of my study is to inquire into the Czechoslovakian modern design in the 1930s. I researched the works of a Czech designer Ladislav Sutnar (1897-1976) who contributed to the arts and crafts movement in Czechoslovakia. We can recognize that his visual design works developed under the influence of functionism and internationalism. In this paper I focus on his activites of Cooperative Products Inc.(dp) and Beautiful Chamber (KJ): typography, advertising, posters, book jackets, exhibition design and dining sets. He emphasized the need for new fresh standards in modern living. We can put the Czechoslovakian design into a stream of the Western European modernism in the 1930s.
