Abstract
The work of John Ross (1842-1915), a missionary priest, involved the establishment of the Munkwang Publishing House in Shenyang, Manchuria to spread the gospel in Korea. This activity paved the way for the development of a new field in publishing activity. There has been no research so far on the fact that this work subsequently played a pioneering role in the growth and dissemination of the Korean language in the modern Korean society and the development of Korean culture. Therefore, we reviewed the following in this report: 1.establishment of the Munkwang Publishing House by John Ross and its publishing activities in China, 2.facts regarding casting and purchasing of the lead Hangul characters from Japan, and printing status of the Bible using print types, and 3. dissemination route of the new printing technology in Korea.
