Abstract
This paper reports the developmental process of “Art Textiles” in the Meiji Era. In the exhibition classification of Kyoto Exhibition for Textiles of 1886, the terms “Art Color Dye” and ”Art Textiles” in the dye and textiles section appeared for the first time. This was the first time the term “Art” was used for Japanese textile works, which was novel.  The concept “Art Textiles” was then established.  The concept of “Art Textiles” and the work form of “Large-scale” and “for artistic value” were established as a result of the Chicago Exposition.
