Abstract
This study explores the relationship between a trash can and the setting of a park. Research results show that there are eleven types of trash cans in Ueno Park, for which the popularity of vending machines in Japan might be the reason. As to the trash cans in Taipei Expo Park, they are featured with various languages, icons, bright colors, and thus more recognizable. Trash cans placed in Ueno Park are not so recognizable, albeit they are blended better into the background. More importantly, there is a dumpsite in Ueno Park, where garbage is better classified into different types.
