Elastica of longitudinal cross sections composing the form of Winnowing Rice Baskets

Abstract

A morphological analysis on the KIZUMI’s winnowing rice basket that has been passed down in KIZUMI district, Sousa-city, Chiba Pref. was carried out. As a result, it was confirmed that this morphology forms its characteristic curved surface with a restoring force of an elastic body called Udeki on the planar basic shape called Itami. In this curved surface generation process, the homogeneity of material properties mainly of bending deformation of Itami and Udeki seem to have a large influence on the completion degree of the final form.
