Designer's Role for Sustainable Society

Collaboration with the Rubber Craft Community in the Amazon Region

Abstract

Since the formation of a sustainable society is indispensable all over the world, it is important to rethink the role of designers who can contribute to realization. In this research it is taken up the involvement of a designer in product development by natural rubber, which is a traditional craft of indigenous people. Through local interviews and related materials, this article intends to consider what role it plays in the sustainable development of the region, also, what the meaning of the designer's involvement is in the design field.
