Abstract
This presentation proposes a Four Orders of Design framework to examine key changes in representation and communication that have emerged in our current global and digitalized social environment. This serves as an analytic lens to shed light on design processes as they move from: 1) design materials; 2) to product; 3) to distribution; 4) to institutional and individual stakeholders. This framework identifies interrelationships that exists between these four strata of design and helps to explain the manner in which design depends upon the deployment of representational, communicational and social resources.
