Concept and Trial of the First-Year Experience in Design Education

A Study on the Implementation of "Basic Seminar," the Cross-Departmental Class at Nagaoka Institute of Design

Abstract

In the first-year experience at Nagaoka Institute of Design, "Basic Seminar" has been offering, following one of the educational policies of "learning design as a problem finding and solving process" of Nagaoka Institute of Design. This study will explain the educational contents and processes of the "Basic Seminar" conducted in the first and second years of 2019 and 2020 and consider the ideal curriculum for the first-year experience in design education.
