The purpose of this research was to investigate the general impression of typeface and the relation with its visual attributes. However, there exist so huge a number of typefaces that they should be classified to several groups at first. In this paper, we focused on the classification of typefaces based on the similarity and thesubjective evaluation axes on which the similarity was judged. As a result, forty typefaces were classified into 9 groups and their evaluation axes were summarized into 19 categories: impressive, hard, soft, formal, casual, cute, adult, etc. We discussed some relations between typeface groups and evaluation categories.
