Abstract

This study explored safe pedestrian guidance markings for pedestrian pathways in highway service area parking lots. The results of the CG simulator experiment showed that, from the pedestrian's perspective, markings with letters on colored pavement were easier to recognize. From the driver's perspective, the evaluation was split between colored pavement and zebra. Males and subjects with low driving proficiency evaluated the colored pavement, while females and subjects with high driving proficiency evaluated the zebra. Based on the above, considering drivers with low driving proficiency, colored pavement is preferable to zebra for pedestrian pathways.
