Abstract

With the diversification of values, DESIGN is now required to play a role in not only problem-solving but also sensemaking. However, in the business world, people are unable to breakthrough from problem-solving thinking using the KJ method. Therefore, the authors developed a hypothesis of the ‘dig up mode’ that is effective for sensemaking and conducted demonstration experiments in four cases. As a result, we found that the discovery mode tends to be easier to deal with the complexity of information, easier to perform abstract interpretations, and more likely to generate highly original ideas.
