Design of haori-style wear incorporating elements from Edo period kimonos

Abstract

In this study, we were concerned that the kimono, Japan's national clothing, is becoming less familiar, so we considered ways to make the younger generation more aware of it. The Edo period kimono came in 10 colors, including red, yellow, and blue, with striped and lattice patterns being the most representative. The shape is haori type. By making them into a haori style, we observed that they are easier to wear than a kimono and offer a glimpse into Edo culture.
