Abstract

We designed a product that applies Kyoto's traditional craft, KYO-KUMIHIMO. Kumihimo is a hand-woven cord made from silk threads of various colors, it has been used since ancient times to decorate kimonos and shrines and temples. In recent years, demand has decreased, and the challenge is to survive as an industry and pass on the skills of the makers. In this research, we developed new methods for wrapping electrical cords, chains, etc., with Kumihimo. And we produced lighting equipment and desk stationery, with the aim of making Kumihimo more useful in modern life.
