Abstract
Handrails are frequently installed in public facilities. In this research, we analyzed mechanical loads acting on stair handrail using both upper limbs during stair climbing. Seven healthy right-handed adults (age: 23.9±5.0 years, height: 170.1±6.3 cm, weight: 56.2±7.3 kg) participated in the experiment, stair climbing while using their right and left hands. As a result, the handrail was gripped with approximately 126.2 N by the right-hand, and approximately 119.3 N by the left-hand gripped during the ascending motion. In future studies, we plan to conduct experiments with elderly individuals who require handrails.
