Satisfaction of people with disabilities using universal beaches and design

A case study of Oarai Sun Beach in Ibaraki Prefecture

Abstract

The following three points were identified as a result of a questionnaire survey of people with disabilities who use the Universal Beach.First, the largest number of people with disabilities using the UB were physically challenged. They wanted to experience UB even if they experienced difficulties when using it.Second, while overall satisfaction with the UB experience was high, they experienced difficulties in moving around and changing clothes. Furthermore, amphibious wheelchairs are effective in assisting not only the physically challenged but also people with various disabilities to go out to the ocean.
