Abstract

This study examined how game endings (positive vs. negative) and romantic experience (experienced vs. inexperienced) affect players' self-identification and views on romance in romance simulation games. A 2x2 between-subjects design was used with 120 university students, employing the interactive movie game Motesolo: No Girlfriend Since Birth. Results showed that romantic experience significantly impacted players' emotional self-identification and idealized views of romance, while game endings had no significant effect. These findings highlight the importance of players' real-life romantic experiences in shaping emotional engagement with games.
