Abstract

This study aims to clarify relationships between long-term and new residents in Tsukuba, a planned city shaped by repeated population inflows. Interviews reveal clear differences: newcomers prioritize convenience and efficiency with limited local engagement, while long-term residents value community ties. Although community centers provide contact through shared interests, these interactions remain temporary and individual. The division stems not only from differing values but also from limited time for relationship building due to rapid inflows. Future work should expand individual connections into broader community networks.
