Abstract

This study is based on the survey of 160 museums in Korea as to educational activities of museums. Accordingly, the survey indicated three major tasks to be noted for present educational activities of museums as follows : 1) Task on Regional Relationship : It is required to reexamine attitude as well as the way of thinking to relationship between a region and museums in terms of operation of museum, given that relationship between museums and both local society and residents is integrated by museums' activities such as response to local needs, expansion of participation by local residents, support to education of local residents, and cooperation with various organizations and institutions. 2) Task on Action : Currently, the level of each activity is low and there are little direct association between museums and communities. The number of a museum is, however, growing, that develops direct involvement and takes an action of educational activities. It is, therefore, necessary to lead more positive change of point of view and to practice educational activities reflecting the sequence from the change. 3) Task on Correspondence System : Because each activity is deficient in suitable personnel and hardware of a museum, it is also required museums establish efficient correspondence system to cope with consistent utilization and participation by residents through improving quality of personnel and hardware.
