Abstract

Based on 428 survey responses from national, public museums in Japan, this study takes in situation of present educational activities, and captures 4 lessons to be addressed in educational activities. (1)Directivity of educational activities : In order to promote active utilization by local community, it is necessary that museums effectuate substantial educational activities. Also point of view needs to be changed on integration of relationship with local community and educational activities. (2)Substantiation of educational activities : Since present situation indicates that educational activities is not substantially carried away, it is crucial to have various educational activities responding community's necessity. (3)Substantiation of association activity : In order that a museum is to be the place for life-long education, it is essential to establish involvement of local community as well as wide association with various local organizations. (4)Arrangement of hardware and human resource : It is important to set up hardware and human resource for substantial activity development of a museum.
