Abstract
The main purpose of this article is to clarify the development of Shaker furniture by introducing woodworking machine. Shaker furniture was simple but little different by when or where it was made. This article focused on the studies by Edward Deming Andrews and Timothy D. Rieman and highlighted the development in late 19th century, clarified the following points. (1) Rieman's study is influenced by Andrews' one. However, as to pointing the influence by woodworking machine in design Rieman's study is superior to Andrews' one. (2) Rieman highlighted that the turning decoration eliminated from armchair from 1870 to 1880. However the decoration appeared temporarily by introducing machine. (3) Rieman highlighted that the design of finial developed with introducing machine after 1860. However same development occurred in before 1860.
