Abstract
It is quite important that the individualization of surfacing of streets. Footscape design has created pedestrians a walking space rich in humanity. This research provides case studies of pedestrian pavements of 28 cities of Europe and presents the insight gained by examining these cases. As a result, a variety of methods of expression for enhancing the individualization of surfacing have been drawn out, such as being in tune with the buildings by the roadside; the introduction of artistic creation; characterization created by a geometric design; the application of local color; adaptation to the lay of the land; endowing the exterior space with the characteristics of the interior space; application of the traditional techniques for pavement; the introduction of visual expression representing the local features; and the use of environment-friendly material, etc..
