Abstract
The diagnosis of perastomal hernia is usually made during physical examinations or deduced from the appearance of symptoms. This study reports the efficacy of CT imaging in diagnosing perastomal hernia.
Retrospective analysis was conducted of 46 CT images for stoma patients who had been examined over the past 10 years. Fourteen patients(30%) were discovered to have perastomal hernias, while there were only 4 patients whose condition required diagnosis by conventional means.
The results of this study indicate that the conditions of the stoma site are crucial factors in the diagnosis of this disease. Of the cases in which the stoma was located in the rectoabdominal muscle, the rates of occurrence of perastomal hernia were 8.4%.
