In this article, I analyse the result of our investigation on the old both in the institutions and at home, and try to clear up following three problems ; firstly, I reserch the factors to make the old live in the institutions, secondly, I try to clear the merits and the limits of the unregulated institutions supplyed by market mechanism, and thirdly, I try to confirm the roles and the tasks of the welfare institutions. In those aims I show (1) the differentials between the old in the ininstitutions and at home, and (2) the common factors and the differentials within the old living in the institutions by the type of them, and (3) common factors, especialy common needs between the old in the institution and in the aged household.
