Abstract
We report the safety and the efficacy of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) using a balloon catheter to treat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) patients who failed to recanalize after IV rt-PA. Sixteen patients received endovascular treatment. Postprocedure, 75% of the treated vessels were revascularized to Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) grade 2 to 3. Favorable clinical outcomes (modified Rankin Scale 0 to 2) occurred in 69%. There were no procedural complications. From our results, PTA after failed IV rt-PA in MCAO patients seems to be safe and effective.
