Four lines of the transplantable rat tumors, originated from different organs and tissues (2 lines from epithelial and 2 lines from non-epithelial), infected with Friend leukemia virus of mouse were studied by electron microscope.
Many virus particles and stages in particles development could be constantly observed in all lines of the rat tumors. The viral antigen of these particles was also studied immunoelctron-microscopically and the specific viral antigen common to Friend leukemia virus of mouse was directly demonstrated in the budding particles of the rat tumor cells.
The possible significance of these findings is discussed in relation to the target cell of infection with the mouse leukemia virus.
