Abstract
A turpen containing has a hazard of ignition due to the flammability of turpen oil. The sludge was packed into plastic containers tightly before feeding into the incinerator in order to avoid ignition. However, this costs too much, and the other method to prevent fire was investigated and tested. As a result, it was confirmed that the ignition risk was reduced by adding water and surfactant to the sludge, and then mixing. It is considered that the flash point of turpen was raised by the effect of surfactant, which has the features of gelation and emulsification, resulting that the flammability of the oil was reduced.
