This work was initiated in order to obtain a certain view point on cooking and bleaching of NaXS (Na xylenesulfonate) pulp.
Beech wood chips and bamboo chips become pulp by 25% NaXS solution at 160°C, but it was difficult to reduce pine wood chips to a pulp.
After cooking, chips were washed with water, and when soluble lignin in waste liquor become insoluble solid, therefore, it is in necessary to repeat washing in order to make bleached pulp effectively.
With the elevation of temperature, pulp yield decreased, but the progress of delignification in chips was not so great, that it is important to keep the proper temperature.
As NaXS pulp contains more lignin than KP, more of the bleaching stages and amount of bleaching agents are necessary for NaXS pulp bleaching than those for KP bleaching.
PA bleaching of NaXS pulp made rapid progress and the PA which remained after the first bleaching treatment was available on the next bleaching stage.
In short, PA seemed to raise efficiently the level of bleaching.
