The performance of coated paper is much influenced by SBR latexes which are used as a main binder of pigment coating.
In this paper, the following relationships between coated paper properties and characteristics of SBR latexes are discussed.
(1) Blister resistance and gel content of SBR
(2) Print gloss and particle size, ACN content, S/B ratio and gel content of SBR
(3) Gravure printability and Tg of SBR
And further a new type latex having heterogeneous SBR polymer phase, core-shell structure, in each individual particle is introduced compared with the conventional homogeneous SBR latex.
