A combination of smectite and cationic surfactant is proposed to alleviate the secondary sticky problems occuring in the wastepaper processing. The contaminants in the white water can be removed by the dissolved air flotation and sedimentation with these chemicals. Furthermore, these chemicals are adsorbed on the stickies and reduce the sticking ability. The suitable formulation and possible application of the chemicals are discussed.
